Career & Technical Education

And the buzz is....................

"Unbelievable!" That's what I keep hearing about the new Career and Technical Education facility at Oak Harbor High School.

The school district hosted an open house at the new facility last night and the community members who attended were awed. My sources tell me that our neighboring communities are worried that this new educational opportunity in Oak Harbor may draw people to Oak Harbor.

And it should. Not that we didn't have award winning programs already...think Wildcat TV, our nationally-recognized DECA program, State-champion culinary team, and State-champion automotive team...now our OH youth will be able to earn certification in technology, automotive, Design, Construction, Medical Fields, Video Productions, and Restaurant in a state of the art facility. The OHSD tech prep program offers credit at four different colleges while students attend our campus.

WOW!

Despite the Weather

It may not look like mid spring outside, but................

Yachting season officially began on Sunday. The Oak Harbor Yacht Club officially opened the season with a well attended brunch at the club and a parade of members' boats.

After the Shifty Sailors entertained the crowd with a number of their best loved shanties, Commodore Byron Skubi gave a report as to the status of the club. The OH Yacht Club Pirates sounded the canon and a number of the members boarded their boats (in the sunshine) and proceeded out to the harbor to parade by the "Commodore's Barge". The officials of the Yacht Club and their wives saluted each vessel as it passed by the barge, which was in reality, the Grey Goose, hardly a barge, but Chris Skinner's yacht.

A good time was had by all and the boats were back in harbor before the rains came once again.

Don't miss your chance tomorrow to tour the new tech building at Oak Harbor High School. This addition to our high school is the envy of the surrounding school districts.
